Research advanced standing DDS and DMD programs
Advanced standing programs can provide a route to a U.S. dental degree for eligible dentists educated outside the United States or Canada. Compare each school’s prerequisites, documents, deadlines and selection process.
Prepare for the INBDE where required
Check the current JCNDE candidate requirements and each program’s policy. Build a plan for concept review, patient-case practice and mock review.
Organize your advanced standing application
Review the current ADEA CAAPID instructions and program-specific requirements. Prepare your records, CV and personal statement, and plan for interviews or practical assessments when requested.
Check interview and bench test requirements
Each school sets its own selection process. Confirm the format, procedures, materials and dates before choosing interview practice or a bench workshop.
Keep education and licensure requirements separate
Admission to a program, passing an examination and eligibility for a professional licence are different decisions. Verify current requirements with each school and the relevant state board.
Is ADEA CAAPID the same as ADEA AADSAS?
No. CAAPID supports participating advanced standing programs for internationally educated dentists. AADSAS is a separate application service for participating dental schools. Choose the application route required by the program.
Does every advanced standing program require the same tests?
No. Requirements vary. Check each school’s current instructions rather than assuming INBDE, English-language testing or a bench assessment is universal.
Does passing the INBDE alone provide a U.S. dental licence?
No. Licensure depends on additional requirements set by the jurisdiction. Consult the relevant licensing board for current requirements.
