How to build an INBDE study plan around your exam date

Build an INBDE study plan around your exam date, weekly availability and practice results. Balance dental lessons, questions, mock exams and review.

Start with the exam, not a generic calendar

The INBDE is an integrated exam: foundational knowledge matters because you must apply it to clinical decisions. Begin by reading the current official examination guide and practice questions. Use those documents to identify the types of decisions you need to rehearse, then work backward from your scheduled exam date.

Block out days you genuinely have available. Keep a little flexibility for missed sessions and topics that take longer than expected. A plan you can adjust is more useful than a perfect plan you abandon after a week.

An illustrative study week

This is an example, not a prescribed preparation duration. Change the number and length of sessions to match your availability.

  • Monday: review one dental topic and answer related questions.
  • Tuesday: review explanations and record recurring errors.
  • Wednesday: try a mixed set and identify two review priorities.
  • Thursday: revisit those concepts and attempt new questions.
  • Friday: complete a timed practice set.
  • Weekend: review the set, adjust next week and take planned rest.

Balance lessons, practice questions and mistake review

Give each study day a clear job. Content review builds understanding; practice questions reveal what you can retrieve; case-based review tests whether you can apply it. Rotate between the three instead of spending weeks passively watching lectures before attempting questions.

  • Review: focus on one clinical discipline or foundation knowledge area and write a short recall summary.
  • Practice: answer questions without notes, then explain why each option is right or wrong.
  • Apply: work through a patient history, findings and any images before choosing a management step.

Let your results change tomorrow’s plan

After each question set, tag mistakes by topic and by cause: missing knowledge, misreading the stem, or applying the right fact to the wrong patient. Revisit the weakest patterns before adding more new material. A timed mock exam can help you practice pacing and show where to focus your next review cycle; it is a rehearsal, not a promise of an exam outcome.

  • Choose an exam date and realistic weekly study hours.
  • Schedule review, questions and patient cases across the week.
  • Reserve time to review errors, not just to count questions.
  • Reassess the schedule after each mock exam and move tasks when needed.
